Build Intelligent Apps with Data + AI
Welcome to the Databricks Building Intelligent Apps Hackathon, in collaboration with AWS.
This APJ-wide virtual hackathon invites app developers, data and AI engineers, analysts, and business users to team up and build intelligent applications on Databricks that solve real-world business problems.
This year’s challenge is simple: go beyond dashboards and create apps that combine data, AI, analytics, and automation into experiences people can use every day.
Using Databricks Apps, Genie, Lakebase, and Agent Bricks, teams will design and prototype intelligent solutions that deliver insights, automate workflows, and create new user experiences.

What You’ll Build
A working intelligent app that:
Lets users ask questions in natural language via Genie
Uses AI agents to automate steps and suggest actions
Persists context and state in Lakebase so the app “remembers”
Create intuitive apps that tie the solution together
Tell story with data using AI/BI dashboards
Challenge Tracks
Choose one of the following tracks for your submission:
Track 1
Social Impact (Open Data)
Use public/open data (e.g. national open data portals) to tackle a social challenge such as climate resilience, public health, inequality, or energy efficiency.
Track 2
Business Impact (Your Data)
Use your organization’s data to solve a real business problem — for example, cost optimization, customer experience, risk, or operations.

Submission Requirements
Teams must submit a 5-minute video presentation showcasing:

THE TEAM
Project/Team name, Participant names, country of submission, use case description.

DEMO VIDEO
A functional demonstration video (maximum 5 mins), which should include:
Introduction of your team and problem statement
Walk through of solution architecture
Demonstration of the working solution

PROJECT SPECS
The project must incorporate Databricks technologies to build an Intelligent Application use case. This may include Lakebase, Genie Spaces, Databricks Apps, Agent Bricks, etc.

DATASETS
Participants can use a dataset of their choice, leveraging open-source data sources and datasets available on the Databricks Marketplace
Judging Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated based on:

Does the solution address a real business problem in a meaningful way?
How impactful is this use case for decision-making and business operations?

Is this a novel and original idea, or does it replicate existing solutions?
Does it introduce unique capabilities through building agents or data applications that differentiate it from standard BI/analytics approaches?

Is the application intuitive and easy to use for end users?
Does it enable users to take meaningful action based on the outputs?

Technical Capability
Does the solution effectively integrate Databricks platform capabilities including Apps, Lakebase, Genie, and/or AgentBricks?
Is it technically well-executed with functional, working components?
Is it designed with scalability, sound architecture, and technical best practices in mind?
